Healthy babies for mothers with serious mental illness

This framework is designed to help mental health clinicians manage the pregnancy, reproductive and sexual health needs of women of child bearing age with serious mental illness (SMI).

For consumers – who should read this?

You should read this if you are a woman with schizophrenia or major affective disorder (including bipolar disorder) who:

  • is newly pregnant
  • is thinking about having a child
  • would like contraceptive or sexual health advice
