Mental Health

NMHS Mental Health, Public Health and Dental Services (MHPHDS) Mental Health is the State’s largest mental health service providing Youth, Adult, Older Adult, Forensic and State-wide services in a variety of settings that include inpatient units within NMHS hospitals, community mental health centres, day therapy and outreach programs. The service includes Graylands Hospital, the state’s only standalone public psychiatric teaching hospital that provides acute care, rehabilitation, treatment and rehabilitation for adults.

In Australia, overseas visitors, overseas students and patients who are not eligible for Medicare under their current VISA arrangements are required to pay for the cost of their health care. Please contact your referred hospital Overseas Liaison Officer.

Mental Health Emergency Response Line (MHERL)

This 24-hour, 7 day a week triage service has professionals who can provide advice about mental health problems and, if needed, assist with access to mental health care.

For help with mental health issues

General Practitioners (GPs) can make referrals to specialist mental health services when needed.

There is also a wide network of non-government organisations that provide many important mental health services with assistance from the State Government.
